UCPAP Granted Continuing Accreditation-Provisional Status

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) awarded the University of Charleston Physician Assistant Program (UCPAP) the status of continuing Accreditation-Provisional at the commission's March 2015 meeting. The UCPAP was initially granted Accreditation-Provisional status by the ARC-PA in September 2012 prior to the matriculation of the first cohort of students. Since then, the program has diligently worked to maintain the high standards set forth by the ARC-PA. This recent accreditation decision by the ARC-PA was based upon a self study report and application submitted by the PA program and a two day site visit conducted by a team appointed by the commission. The UCPAP is extremely proud of this program and very pleased with the ARC-PA report and accreditation status awarded!

Accreditation-Provisional status is granted to new PA programs that meet ARC-PA requirements and provide evidence of compliance with ARC-PA standards. After the initial award of Accreditation-Provisional status is given, PA programs must successfully complete an additional Provisional Monitoring Review and Site Visit and then a Final Provisional Review and Site Visit by the ARC-PA before they are eligible for Accreditation-Continued status. The UCPAP has now successfully completed the Provisional Monitoring Review and Site Visit. The Final Provisional Review and Site Visit for the program will take place in approximately 18 months.
